My Weight Loss Journey

12/27/13 - 260 lbs
Just over 6 months ago I made the decision to take back my life and take charge of my health. Somehow I found myself spiraling out of control. At 260 pounds there was no sign of slowing down and no motivation to lose weight or get in shape.  My fiance would try to get me to be more active, but the most I would do is go for a bike ride, which is a good start, but not enough to change my body. I was stuck in a hole and needed someone to show me the way out.

I've struggled with weight problems my whole life. Two and a half years ago I was at 220 lbs and playing intramural football in a work league to try and be somewhat active. That was the only physical activity I was getting, which was only once a week. It was a Co-Ed league and we were on defense. A girl on the opposing team had caught the ball and I was heading straight fer her, but I was big and heavy and didn't want to hurt anyone. I braced my legs to slow down and *POP*...... I find myself lying on the ground holding my knee with a crowd of people over me, players in the other game on the 2nd field even heard my knee go off like a fire cracker. My final damaged turned out to be a torn ACL, MCL and Meniscus. Obviously this meant reconstructive knee surgery. 

After the knee surgery my recovering was going great.  I was going to physical therapy 3 times a week and I was impressing my physical therapist with my progress.  3 months later was my last session and I was able to do a lop sided jog on the treadmill (with my knee brace of course). Along with my therapist I left behind all of my motivation.  I couldn't find any reason to do anything remotely active.  Really though, I had the perfect excuse, a "bum knee." For 2 years I used that as an excuse to be lazy and eat whatever I wanted. I gained about 40 pounds effortlessly.

Everything changed 7 months ago when my coworker walked into my cubicle and challenged my cube mate and I to a weight loss challenge.  We both perked up accepting the challenge immediately.  The goal was to lose 20 pounds in 3 months and the one who lost the most would win $50 from each participant.  What better motivation than a little bit of cash.  I was so determined to take advantage of this motivation opportunity that I started early and was down to 256 lbs for my initial weigh in.  

10/9/14 - 185 lbs
With 30 to 60 minutes of exercise 6 days a week and changing the food I was eating I was able to lose 40 pounds during the 3 month challenge with my coworkers for the win.  I've finally figured out the secret to weight loss and the best part is that it wasn't even a secret at all.  With the progress I made in just a short 3 months I was determined to keep going and see how far it would take me.

Today I am sitting at a total weight loss of 75 lbs!! I am still far away from where I want to be, but I've already set long term goals and plans to get where I want to be. I am by no means a fitness, or health expert, but I've been able to turn my life around in a positive direction. I want to share my journey with you in hope that I will be able to inspire someone else to do the same.  In my future posts I will share with you everything it took to make the lifestyle change to a better and healthier life.
